So, here’s the news I’ve been holding onto for a while: The Type Convo is getting a new name. Actually, not just a new name — a new identity. A new direction. A bigger purpose.

As of today, The Type Convo becomes CAPTN OffScript.

From Fonts to Founders — and Beyond

When I started The Type Convo, the name made perfect sense. I was interviewing type designers, font makers, and creatives working directly with letterforms. It was all about the world of type, and that was my world too. I’m a type designer. I’ve spent the last 16+ years in design industry, obsessing over kerning, ligatures, and building my foundry, SilverStag Type Foundry.

But from the very first episode with Stacy, the conversation naturally started drifting into much more than type. We talked about imposter syndrome. Burnout. Creative blocks. Building businesses. Being broke. Starting over. Working through trauma. Holding on to joy. Sometimes we barely even talked about fonts — but those were the episodes people messaged me about the most.

I realized that I wasn’t just having design conversations. I was having human conversations — with creative people who happened to design things, but whose stories were so much bigger than their job titles. And more importantly, I didn’t want to stop that drift. I wanted to lean into it. I wanted to explore what drives other creatives like me. I wanted to know and share their stories, I wanted to ask serious questions, and I wanted to ask funny questions too. So, the name had to evolve.

Why CAPTN OffScript?

Well, that is a personal and a business story at the same time.  First off — CAPTN (or captain) has been part of my personal identity for years. My last name literally means captain’s son. And for a long time, I’ve used “Captain” in small personal ways — handles, inside jokes, folder names… Also, there is a rhyme in my native tongue my mom used to tease me with when I was a kid — and it also uses the word captain. So, it felt natural. It felt like me. And at this point, it’s part of how I see myself: steering this creative ship, learning how to navigate without a map. And that’s kind of the point of the podcast, too. Learning how to grow and be a captain of your own journey, from other captains.

The OffScript part? That one’s easy.

None of my guests ever get questions in advance. There’s no prep, no PR filtering, no performance. We just hit record and talk. About their work, yes — but also about how they live, how they think, what they’ve been through, what they’re still figuring out, and even what perfume their brand would be. It’s off-script in every sense.

And I wanted the new name to reflect that — something personal, something directional, something honest. CAPTN OffScript felt like the perfect fit.

What’s Changing (and What’s Not)

If you’ve been a listener of The Type Convo, don’t worry. You’ll still hear from designers, illustrators, and type people — because that’s my world, and I love talking to them. But going forward, the guest list is expanding. The topics are expanding. The platform itself is expanding. I’ll be talking to creative leaders, founders, writers, entrepreneurs, storytellers — anyone with a voice and a story that has something to teach us.

That’s the energy I want to keep growing. And this rebrand isn’t about getting fancy or commercial. I’m still doing everything myself — recording from my setup in Madrid, reaching out to guests personally, editing late at night, sipping tea instead of coffee.

What’s changing is the frame. CAPTN OffScript gives me more space to explore the kinds of stories that deserve more space. And I hope it gives you more room to connect, reflect, and maybe even reframe your own creative journey. Because at the end of the day, this podcast isn’t about fonts or followers. It’s about all of us trying to build a life that feels meaningful — and honest — on our own terms.

Thanks for being here through this transition. Thanks for supporting The Type Convo, and now, CAPTN OffScript. It means more than you know.

Let’s keep going — off script.
